The Geothermal Resources Council is closing its California headquarters and letting go staff as its operations transition over to an association management company, the group announced Monday.
GRC is a 501(c)(3) association founded in 1972 to provide professional education opportunities to the geothermal industry. It absorbed the Geothermal Energy Association—a 501(c)(6) industry group—in 2018. It is based in Davis, Calif.
The council said that it was letting go an unspecified number of staff as part of a new management model that will have its operations overseen by the New Jersey-based company Association Headquarters. , Inc., an association management company. In a statement, Andrew Sabin, president of GRC's board of directors, thanked staff "for all of their tremendous work."
"This has been an extremely difficult but necessary change," he said. "The need and the demand for renewable energy, including geothermal energy, is becoming apparent to all consumers and decision-makers alike. GRC needs to position itself for this growth with scalable and dynamic capabilities that help us build our program and best serve our members and our industry."
GRC listed six staff on its website as of April 13.
