The Interactive Advertising Bureau in the U.S. wants people to know that it isn't the same group that recently filed an antitrust complaint against the tech giant Apple in Europe, saying such concerns are better addressed through other means.

IAB France recently joined several businesses in filing a complaint against Apple for planned changes to its popular operating system for smartphones and computers, according to the news site MediaPost. Specifically, the company is planning to require software users to opt into tracking on an app-by-app basis. Apps and web browsers track user data to target advertising at consumers, but the European Union has strict regulations about how that data is collected and used.
The ad industry opposes Apple's planned changes, but IAB U.S. doesn't believe an antitrust complaint is a right tool. In a statement, the association noted the global IAB network consists of 47 national and regional IABs that are independently governed bodies.
"In the U.S., antitrust is a long, complex, and often cumbersome process that too frequently fails to address pressing competitive needs in a timely manner," New York City-based IAB said in a statement. Instead, the association believes concerns raised by the complaint are best tackled through the collective development of technical standards and operating practices.
"This needs to be done together with bodies representing users, with regulation assuring all participants' compliance, if need be," the statement said.
