The National Grocers Association will not absorb a group representing independent food distributors after both associations decided to push pause on the deal, the industry news site Progressive Grocer reported Thursday.
NGA and Retailer Owned Food Distributors & Associates announced in November that the latter would join the grocers' association as part of a merger in early 2020. However, in a joint statement to Progressive Grocer, the groups said the acquisition will not go through "in light of a number of unexpected circumstances."
"While our two organizations continue to share a strong and collaborative relationship, it's clear now is not the time to proceed as originally planned," NGA CEO Greg Ferrara and ROFDA David Bullard said.
They added that the two organizations will continue to work closely on programs and initiatives, with ROFDA hosting meetings in conjunction with the NGA Show in February.
ROFDA's eight members provide distribution services to independent grocers across the country. NGA represents independent grocers. http://bit.ly/30rrCCT
