Scores of science associations are endorsing the second March for Science on April 14, with many groups encouraging members to participate in Washington, D.C., or at events closer to home.
The American Geophysical Union is more focused this year on supporting local marches. AGU offered financial assistance for members organizing 10 or more of their colleagues to march together, in the form of grants to reimburse expenses up to $500. Organizers in 12 cities—eight in the U.S. and four outside the U.S.—applied for and will receive the assistance.
AGU is also promoting March for Science T-shirts with AGU branding on the back—100 Years of Marching Science Forward. Graphics for posters, banners and other are downloadable for free with different slogans.
The first March for Science, on April 22, 2017, mobilized perhaps a million people in more than 600 cities around the world. For 2018, the March for Science website lists more than 175 satellite events. In Washington, D.C., teach-ins will start at 9 a.m. on the National Mall. A rally is set for 12:30 p.m., followed by the march.
AGU is expecting a number of members, affiliates and staff to come into Washington, D.C. There will be a kick-off gathering in the morning before heading to the National Mall.
The Entomological Society of America also has a new design for T-shirts and buttons for the upcoming March. The design
