Congress will hear a more unusual message from some of the groups visiting Washington, D.C., this week: thanks for getting the job done.
Members of the National Association of Professional Employer Associations will thank those lawmakers who voted for NAPEO's top legislative priority, the Small Business Efficiency Act. The law, passed Dec. 16, gives IRS-certified professional employer associations clear authority to pay wages and collect taxes on behalf of their clients.
Two medical societies on Capitol Hill this week--the American College of Radiology and the American College of Physicians -- are also thanking Congress for finally passing legislation in April to replace the current formula for how Medicare pays doctors. But the physicians still have a huge list of asks: ACP's list includes continuing a 10 percent Medicare bonus for primary care, and boosting the number of medical students going into primary care.
Musician and former New York Yankees player Bernie Williams and actor Doc Shaw, best known for the TV show "Tyler Perry's House of Payne" will hit the Hill as part of the National Association of Music Merchants fly-in for music education. NAMM is also holding a day of service at a local elementary school.
Other groups holding fly-ins and legislative events this week include the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, American Land Title Association, National Asian Pacific Bar Association, Heating Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration Distributors International, American Association of Homecare, Association for Corporate Growth, and North American Equipment Dealers Association.
