Clean power group launches inclusive energy initiative

New framework maps a path forward based on three pillars

The American Clean Power Association on March 23 unveiled the Energy Transition for All initiative to ensure that workers, communities and "those historically left behind" will benefit from wind, solar and other types of renewable energy.

"This is a unique moment in time, and we have a chance to build a 21st century energy system that works for everyone," stated a letter released by ACP. "It will take coordination from policymakers, community leaders and industry to ensure the transition is equitable and everyone shares in the economic growth and opportunity."

ACP commissioned a study in 2021 involving dozens of interviews with industry executives, program leaders and external experts. The resulting framework maps a path forward based on three pillars:

  • "Expand opportunity for workers, especially those from transitioning and historically disadvantaged communities.

  • Create value for communities through supply chains, targeted investments and local economic development.

  • Lead in diversity and inclusion, striving towards a workforce and leadership teams that are representative of the communities we operate in."

"As we work to achieve these objectives, we will start a process to develop clear targets, monitor our focus and report on our progress," ACP said. The group added that it will partner with local and national organizations.

Wind and solar energy currently account for about 13% of electricity produced in the U.S. By 2030, the "clean energy industry" could represent as much as 50% of electricity generation, according to the group.

ACP has more than 700 member companies across wind, solar and energy-storage technologies.
