CEO to take top position at American Council of Engineering Companies

Linda Bauer Darr will resign as CEO of the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association to lead the American Council of Engineering Companies.

In a letter to ASLRRA members, Judy Petry, chair of the association's board of directors, said Darr will resign July 27 to accept a position at another association. Darr will begin her new role at the $16 milllion-revenue ACEC in August, succeeding CEO David Raymond.

"Linda's new position will offer her a significant opportunity to grow as a leader in a considerably larger organization and industry but that she has mixed emotions about moving on, having greatly enjoyed and grown from her time working with all of you," Petry said.

Darr joined the $6.5 million-revenue ASLRRA in 2014 after having led the American Moving and Storage Association for seven years. She had previously worked at the American Bus Association as senior vice president of public policy. She also was deputy assistant secretary for budget and programs at the U.S. Department of Transportation during the Clinton Administration.

Petry credited Darr's leadership for a number of successes at ASLRRA, including successfully advocating for an industry tax credit, growing the group's political action committee and securing a $2.5 million government grant for short lines.

Darr earned $496,589 in 2015, according to the group's most recently available tax records.

The ASLRRA Executive Committee—which consists of a small group of board members—plans soon to start a process for choosing Darr's successor, Petry said.
