Association offers $1 million to "grow" its trade show The National Apartment Association is offering $1 million to any marketing firms or individuals who can come up with a plan to double the attendance at its upcoming 2015 NAA Education Conference & Exposition in Las Vegas. The proposal—dubbed "Grow the Show"—seeks to double the attendance numbers achieved at NAA's 2013 show within two years. Anyone can submit ideas, which will be submitted to a panel that will choose the most promising project.

Internet sales tax passes Senate Legislation that would give states the authority to collect sales taxes from online purchases is moving forward much to the delight of several associations. Late last week, the U.S. Senate approved an amendment to the Fiscal Year 2014 budget bill known as the Marketplace Fairness Act. Currently states and local governments are not able to collect sales taxes from online retailers that do not have a physical presence within the state's border. The amendment would change that.

Crisson announces exit next year from APPA Mark Crisson will retire as CEO of the $18M-revenue American Public Power Association on April 1, 2014, the public utilities association recently announced. Crisson has led APPA since 2008, having previously been CEO and director of utilities for Tacoma Public Utilities in the state of Washington. In a statement, Crisson said he has been associated with public power for 35 years.
