API's Gerard sees improved dialogue with White House

The American Petroleum Institute's multimillion dollar Vote 4 Energy campaign last year did not inflict the promised "huge political consequences" on President Barack Obama for his failure to support the Keystone XL Pipeline, but API is more sanguine about its relationship with the president in his second term. In his annual State of American Energy address Jan. 8, API CEO Jack Gerard—one of Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney's top advisers—said he appreciated the president's campaign rhetoric on energy.
