Internet sales tax gets hearing today The U.S. House Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing today on five alternatives to Internet sales taxes, which is a top priority for many associations. Currently, federal law is unclear about what authority states have in collecting sales taxes from Internet purchases made from retailers outside their borders. That hasn't stopped states from enacting laws doing just that, but advocates want Congress to clarify the issue by passing legislation allowing collection of sales taxes.
