Meyers to lead ultrasound group; Mechler joins thyroid association; more departures and arrivals

Meyers named leader of ultrasound group
Steven R. Meyers has been appointed CEO of the $5.5M-revenue American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, effective Sept. 8. He will succeed John Thorner, who was named interim CEO in January.
“With more than a decade of hands-on and leadership experience across all facets of nonprofit operations, including membership, finances, education, industry relations, event planning, grant funding and inter-society collaboration, Steve brings a wealth of critical knowledge to our organization,” said AIUM President Richard Hoppmann.
Meyers was most recently chief strategy officer and chief membership officer of the Endocrine Society. Previously, he was senior director of membership of the American Chemical Society, where he spent nearly 12 years.
He has dual bachelor degrees in biomedical engineering and computer science from Duke University and a doctorate degree in biomedical engineering from Boston University.

Mechler to lead thyroid association
The $3.8M-revenue American Thyroid Association announced Pam Mechler will take over as the group’s executive director, effective Sept. 9. She will succeed Amanda Perl, who left the organization in May. Perl is now CEO of the American Society of Human Genetics.
“We strongly believe that Ms. Mechler will be an outstanding leader and driving force for achievement of the mission and goals of the ATA and beyond, limited only by the imagination and resources of the talented members and staff of the ATA,” said ATA President Mike McDermott.
Mechler has spent the past 29 years at the American College of Radiology, where she was most recently vice president of strategy management and foresight. Her previous roles at ACR include director of meeting services, senior director of association and meeting services and senior director of strategic planning.
She has dual bachelor degrees in education and psychology from James Madison University and a master’s degree in leadership and management from Marymount University.

Wood takes the helm at insurance group
The Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers announced Joel Wood has succeeded Ken Crerar as president and CEO of the $24M-revenue group. Crerar joined the organization in 1987 as vice president of government affairs and has led since 1992. He will transition into the role of executive chair.
“Joel is a consummate relationship builder and an absolute expert in our industry and our members. He knows our business and our issues inside and out. We have worked together over 30 years as both colleagues and friends and I have all the confidence in Joel as he now takes the helm of The Council,” Crerar said in a statement.
Wood, who has been The Council’s lead regulatory and government affairs officer since 1993, was promoted from senior vice president of government affairs to president of CIAB in 2022. Earlier in his career, he was a press and legislative director for Rep. Don Sundquist (R-Tenn.).
He has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Mississippi.

U.S. Chamber of Commerce—Carrie Healey has left her role of senior director of media relations and external communications of the $210M-revenue Chamber. She has joined communications firm Purple Strategies as a program lead.

Aerospace Industries Association—Adam Garnica has joined $21M-revenue AIA as senior director for acquisition policy. Most recently, he worked at the Pentagon in the Office of the Undersecretary for Research and Engineering.
Certified Financial Planners Board—Guneev Sharma has joined CFPB as senior manager of government relations and public policy. He previously was senior manager of government relations at the National Park Foundation, where he spent nearly three years.
International Dairy Foods Association—Matt Herrick has been promoted to executive vice president and chief impact officer of the $13M-revenue IDFA. He was previously senior vice president of public affairs and communications for the group, which he originally joined in 2019. He returned to the group in 2021 after a stint as director of communications for the U.S. Departure of Agriculture.
National Pharmaceutical Council—Tanya Bailey has been promoted to chief of staff at the $8.3M-revenue NPC. She joined the organization in 2015 and was most recently head of membership and meetings. She previously spent 15 years at the Financial Services Roundtable, where she was vice president of meetings and events.
U.S. Chamber of Commerce—Casey Caitlin has joined The Chamber as director of member relations. Previously, he was director of member outreach at the American Bankers Association, where he spent five years.
