Associations praise and criticize budget proposal President Barack Obama's $3.9 trillion wish list—his proposed budget for fiscal year 2015—provoked strong reactions from many groups, even though many initiatives have no chance of moving forward in an election year. Obama calls for overhauling the corporate tax code, for example, and using the additional revenue to pay for transportation improvements. The American Trucking Associations pointed out the unlikelihood of that happening.

Supreme Court to hear AMA case The U.S. Supreme Court has decided to take up an American Medical Association challenge of a lower court ruling that would strike down the ability of state health boards to regulate certain medical practices—in this case, teeth whitening services offered by non-dentists.

Cable association renews CEO contract The National Cable & Telecommunications Association has decided to stick with its current CEO for the time being. The association's board of directors have approved a new three-year contract for CEO Michael Powell, according to the industry news site Broadcasting & Cable.

Former BSA head nominated for trade representative post President Barack Obama has nominated former BSA | The Software Alliance chief Robert Holleyman for the position of Deputy United States Trade Representative, with the rank of ambassador. Holleyman stepped down from BSA in 2013 after leading the association for 23 years. He has since started the company Cloud4Growth, which helps governments and other organizations to develop cloud computing infrastructure.
