Habursky takes the helm at cigar group
The Premium Cigar Association announced Joshua Habursky has signed on to serve as CEO of the $3.9M-revenue organization through 2028. He succeeds Scott Pearce, who left the organization in May to lead the Cigar Association of America.
“For the past five years we have been able to work effectively with Josh to accomplish the goals of the association related to advocacy. We are confident of his ability to take on the additional responsibility of running the full association moving forward. This internal promotion is a testament to both Josh and the entire PCA staff who have been diligently working with the board to make the association a powerhouse in all departments,” says Scott Regina, president of the PCA Board of Directors.
Habursky joined PCA in 2019 and will continue to serve as PCA’s chief lobbyist. Earlier in his career, he spent nearly three years at the Independent Community Bankers of America, most recently as assistant vice president of advocacy. He also had stints at the American Diabetes Association and the American Motorcyclist Association.
He has a bachelor’s degree in political science from Washington & Jefferson College and a master’s degree in American government from Georgetown University.
Williams to lead anesthesia researchers
The $6M-revenue International Anesthesia Research Society announced Andre Williams will take over as executive director of the organization, effective Aug. 26. He will succeed Tom Cooper, who last year announced his upcoming retirement following 17 years leading the group.
“After a rigorous search process, the IARS Board is delighted that Andre has decided to join the IARS. We are excited about Andre’s wealth of experience and his shared enthusiasm for using research to advance patient care. Williams has spent the past 10 years at association management company Smithbucklin. During his tenure, he has led the American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy, Clinical Research Forum and Healthcare Business Management Association. Earlier in his career, he was executive director and CEO of the Association of Black Cardiologists.

Motion Picture Association—$75M-revenue MPA has announced several changes to its senior staff.
Larissa Knapp has been named executive vice president and chief content protection officer. She spent the 27 years at the FBI, most recently leading its National Security Branch. Previously, she led the FBI’s Security, Training and Human Resources Divisions and Data Analytics.
Furthermore, John Mercurio and Greg Saphier will co-lead communications and public affairs at the association following the departure of Emily Lenzner, who was executive vice president of global communications and public affairs.
Mercurio joined MPA in 2020 as senior vice president and head of global communications. Previously, he was the global head of communications and marketing for the International Association for Trusted Blockchain Applications.
Saphier has been with the organization since 2013, where he was vice president of external affairs before being named senior vice president of external affairs in 2018. Earlier in his career, he was senior director of state affairs and industry grassroots at NCTA — The Internet & Television Association, where he spent nearly six years.
National Association of Community Health Centers—Luis Padilla has been named chief health officer of NACHP. Previously, he was associate administrator for the Bureau of Health Workforce at the Health Resources and Services Administration.
Smart Electric Power Alliance—Emily Fisher has been named chief strategy officer of $16M-revenue SEPA, effective July 29. She has spent the past 16 years at Edison Electric Institute, most recently as executive vice president of clean energy. Earlier in her career, she was a foreign service officer for the U.S. Department of State.
U.S. Travel Association—Maddison Stone has been named director of strategic communications of $29M-revenue UST. She was previously communications director for Rep. G.T. Thompson (R-Pa.).

Chavern to lead life insurance group
The $45M-revenue American Council of Life Insurers announced David Chavern will succeed Susan Neely as president and CEO, effective Sept. 1. Neely, who previously helmed the American Beverage Association, has led ACLI since September 2018.
“David brings an exceptional depth of knowledge and experience to this role. We are confident that under his guidance, ACLI will continue to thrive and effectively advocate for our industry and the millions of Americans who rely on life insurance and financial protection products,” said ACLI Board Chairman Paul Quaranto.
Chavern joined the Consumer Brands Association in January 2023 as president and CEO. Previously, he spent seven years as president and CEO of the. News/Media Alliance. He also spent nine years at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, most recently as executive vice president and chief operating officer.

Cain claims top role at global nonprofit
The $96M-revenue Urban Land Institute has appointed Angela Cain as its next global CEO, effective Sept. 3. She will succeed Ron Pressman, who retired from the organization in October after leading for a year.

Thompson promoted at marketing group
The $4M-revenue Society for Marketing Professional Services has appointed Marci D. Thompson as its next CEO. She was named interim CEO in January, following the departure of Michael Geary, who led SMPS for eight years.

Kavadi named leader of radiation oncology group
The American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) announced Vivek S. Kavadi will succeed Laura Thevenot as CEO of the $24M-revenue organization, effective Nov. 1. Thevenot announced her intent to retire from ASTRO earlier this year, following 22 years at the helm.
“The appointment of a physician from our specialty with first-hand experience of the challenges that practicing physicians face each day marks an important milestone for ASTRO. Kavadi is currently chief radiation oncology officer for The US Oncology Network, where he has worked since 2020. Earlier in his career, he spent 25 years at Texas Oncology, where he was regional medical director. He is also vice chair of the Health Policy Council on the ASTRO Board of Directors.

Chammoun chosen to lead peanut shellers
The $3.7M-revenue American Peanut Shellers Association has appointed Chris Chammoun as its next executive director. Additionally, he will serve as president of The Peanut Institute and The Peanut Institute Foundation.
“(Chris’) education and background in agribusiness and markets, along with his economic development experience provide the prefect blend in leading both American Peanut Shellers Association and The Peanut Institute into the future. Brown to step down at poultry group
The $4.6M-revenue National Chicken Council announced its president, Mike Brown, will be retiring after 13 years at the helm. Gary Jay Kushner has been named interim president. Kushner recently retired from law firm Hogan Lovells and has served as NCC’s outside general counsel for over 40 years.
“We thank Mike for his work in building a strong foundation at NCC and for his years of work to promote the chicken industry in Washington, D.C.,” said NCC Chairman Randy Day, the former CEO of Perdue Farms. “We are now turning our attention to conducting a nationwide search to choose the right person to lead this organization and this great industry into the next decade and beyond.”
Burgess to retire from music association
The $2.8M-revenue American Association of Independent Music (A2IM) announced Richard James Burgess will step down as president and CEO at year end. Burgess was named CEO in 2016 and later president and CEO in 2019.
“As A2IM approaches its 20th anniversary in 2025, I am filled with immense pride for our collective achievements and honored to have been the longest-serving head of A2IM to date,” said Burgess. “Leading this exceptional organization has been an extraordinary experience. I am profoundly grateful for the support and dedication of our board members, the invaluable work of our founding members and prior presidents who set up the organization to succeed, and the unwavering commitment of our many members.”
Burgess is also president of Burgess World Co., an artist management company. Earlier in his career, he was associate director for business strategies of the Smithsonian Institution.

Guszcza tapped to lead building science organization
The $18M-revenue National Institute of Building Sciences announced George K. Guszcza will take over as president and CEO of the organization, effective July 1. He will succeed AC Powell, who left NIBS last August to helm the American Institute for Responsible Discourse.
“Dr. Guszcza is a visionary whose leadership will carry NIBS into its next chapter. We look forward to working with him and continuing our service to the nation’s built environment,” said Thomas H. Phoenix, Sr., chair of the NIBS Board of Directors.
Guszcza was previously chief operating officer of the Neal Richards Group, a real estate development firm, where he worked for nearly six years. He was also executive vice president of finance and administration for strategic management services company Adams and Associates.

Wasner joins public safety group
The $1.2M-revenue International Municipal Signal Association announced Catherine Wasner has been named executive director of the organization. She succeeds Tyson Evatz, who was named interim executive director following the June 2023 resignation of Toby Cummings. Cummings is now CEO of the National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association.

Tenney takes top role at industrial security group
ASIS International announced William Tenney will be the $22M-revenue group’s next CEO, effective July 1. He will succeed Peter O’Neil, who has led the organization since 2016.
“(William’s) diverse background spanning national security and global corporate security makes him exceptionally qualified to lead our organization and advance our strategic priorities,” said Cy A. Oatridge, 2024 ASIS International president.
Tenney was most recently chief security officer and senior vice president of global security at insurance company MetLife, where he spent the past 11 years. Previously, he was head of global operations risk for Bloomberg and director of global security at Target.

Exton named executive director of environmental group
The Water Environment Federation announced Ralph Erik Exton will join the $24M-revenue group as executive director, effective July 15. He will succeed Patrick Nichols, who has been serving on an interim basis since the departure of Walter Marlow in July 2023.

Keane named leader of sleep products group
The $10M-revenue International Sleep Products Association announced Alison Keane has been named president of ISPA and the Mattress Recycling Council. She succeeds Ryan Trainer, who announced his intent to retire earlier this year after leading the organization for 14 years.
“I have worked with Alison for many years. Her development of the PaintCare program greatly influenced our approach in shaping the Mattress Recycling Council. Through her work on behalf of the paint and packaging industries, she is familiar with many of the same regulatory pressures we in the bedding industry face. Dave Parker has joined the Entrepreneurs’ Organization ($51M-revenue) as CEO.

Boliver to helm health care group
The $1.8M-revenue Healthcare Supply Chain Association has named Angie Boliver as its next president and CEO. She succeeds Todd Ebert, who retired in 2019 after leading the organization for four years.
Boliver is the founder and principal consultant of AB Communications Strategies. She was previously senior vice president of PR & communications for education technology company Academic Partnerships (now Risepoint) and vice president of strategic communications, public relations and public affairs for health care company Vizient, Inc.
Goliver has a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Hardin-Simmons University and a master’s degree in English literature and law degree from Southern Methodist University.
Buck to lead training services group
The National Training & Simulation Association has named Sean Buck as its new president. He succeeds the late James Robb, who passed away in November 2023.

McDonald promoted to top role at medicine group
The $72M-revenue American Board of Internal Medicine announced Furman S. McDonald will be the organization’s next president and CEO of both ABIM and the ABIM Foundation, effective Sept. 1.
“As a practicing internist, former program director and husband of a full-time physician scientist who is board certified in radiology and investigating breast cancer, Furman is uniquely attuned to what physicians and patients want and need from ABIM’s credential,” said Rajeev Jain, Chair of the ABIM Board of Directors.
McDonald joined ABIM in 2014 and is currently the group’s senior vice president for academic and medical affairs. He previously spent 13 years at the Mayo Clinic, most recently as residency program director and associate chair. He is also an attending physician of the J. Edwin Wood Clinic and faculty of Pennsylvania Hospital.

Becker named next leader of receivables group
Receivables Management Association International has appointed Mike Becker as $3.7M-revenue RMAI’s next executive director. He succeeds Jan Stieger, who announced last year her intent to retire from the organization in March following 13 years at the helm.

The American Association of Electronic Reporters and Transcribers announced Matt Riley has been selected as the group’s next executive director.

The $5.7M-revenue American Society of Appraisers announced Lana Vukovljak will join the organization as CEO and executive vice president, effective July 1. She will succeed Johnnie White, who left ASA after five years to lead the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology.

Information Technology Industry Council—Sean Murphy has joined $21M-revenue ITIC as executive vice president of policy. Murphy was most recently an expert consultant for the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative. Previously, he was vice president and counsel, head of worldwide government relations for Dolby Laboratories for six years. Earlier in his career, he spent nearly 16 years at Qualcomm, where he was vice president and counsel of international government affairs.

Melancon to retire from accounting group
The Association of International Certified Professional Accountants announced CEO Barry Melancon will retire at year end following 30 years at the $242M-revenue organization. Melacon is also president and CEO of the American Institute of CPAs. AICPA and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) merged in 2017 to form AICPA & CIMA.
“Through Barry’s leadership, we have established the association and optimized the relationship between AICPA and CIMA to lead our global profession into the 2020s and beyond. Barry’s successor will take forward the world’s largest membership base of CPAs and CGMAs, a global platform of advocacy, learning, tools and technology,” said Anoop N. Mehta, former chair of the association and AICPA, who is leading the CEO selection committee.
Melancon joined AICPA as CEO in 1995 before being named CEO of the merged organizations in 2017.
The board of the association is working with Korn Ferry to find Melancon’s successor.

Ahearn appointed leader of toy association
The Toy Association announced Greg Ahearn will take over as president and CEO of the $9M-revenue organization, effective June 1. He will succeed Steve Pasierb, who retired in April after leading the group for nearly nine years.
“We believe Greg's diverse and multi-decade toy background in senior roles across top manufacturers and retailers has built a valuable, trusted, and far-reaching network of relationships that will further the Association's objectives both now and as they continue to evolve," said Sharon Price John, chairperson of The Toy Association Board of Directors.
Ahearn previously was chief marketing officer and general manager of global ecommerce at LeapFrog, where he spent four years. Earlier in his career, he spent 12 years at Toys “R” Us and Babies “R” Us, five years at Hasbro, and three years at Mattel. Most recently, he has been a strategic advisor at Readyland LLC, a company that incorporates interactive AI into children’s books.
Ahearn has a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Georgetown University and a master’s degree in marketing and finance from the University of Southern California.

Motion Picture Association—Jesse Martin has joined $75M-revenue MPA as senior vice president and associate general counsel for content protection and legal affairs. She joins the group from BSA | The Software Alliance, where she spent nearly 11 years, most recently as associate general counsel and senior director of enforcement.
National Association of Manufacturers—Andrea Durkin has been named vice president of international policy of $64M-revenue NAM. She joins the group from the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, where she was assistant U.S. trade representative for WTO and multilateral affairs for the past two years.
Recording Industry Association of America—$33M-revenue RIAA recently announced two promotions to its leadership team.
Erin Burr has been promoted to senior vice president of media relations for the company’s Gold and Platinum Program. Prior to joining RIAA in 2022, Burr was vice president of communications for record label Big Machine Label Group, where she spent nearly 12 years. Previously, she was communications director for the Nashville Songwriters Association International.
Matthew Bass is now vice president of research and Gold and Platinum operations. Bass was previously a research manager for RIAA. He previously spent one year as a valuation and financial risk management analyst for professional services firm Navigant Consulting.
U.S. Travel Association—Ryan Propis has been named vice president of security and facilitation for the $29M-revenue U.S. Travel Association. He previously spent eight years at the U.S. House of Representatives, most recently as deputy staff director and general counsel for the Committee on Homeland Security. He was also chief of staff for the Transportation Security Administration, where he worked for three years.

Coleman takes top role at charter school group
The National Alliance for Public Charter Schools announced Starlee Coleman will be returning to the organization as its next president and CEO, effective August 2024. She will succeed Nina Rees, who announced last September that she would be leaving the group following 11 years at the helm.
“Starlee brings a bold vision and strong strategic leadership to advance our nation’s diverse and growing charter school movement at a critical moment in public education,” National Alliance Board Chair Rick Cruz said. “Her record of success and her dedication to equity and access to excellent public schools for all children will drive the National Alliance’s mission forward and empower and support our allies in states, cities, suburbs and rural communities.”
Coleman has been CEO of the Texas Charter Schools association for the past five years. Previously, she founded SchoolForward, an education-focused communications and advocacy firm. Earlier in her career, she was also senior policy advisor for the State Policy Network and vice president of communications at NAPCS.
She has a bachelor’s degree in English language and literature from Arizona State University.

Sirull named leader of disability group
The National Organization on Disability announced Beth Sirull has been appointed CEO of the organization. She succeeds Carol Glazer who intends to step down from the role following 18 years with the group.
“Beth comes to NOD with demonstrated success leading two business-focused nonprofits, each flourishing with her at the helm,” said Luke Visconti, Chairman of NOD. “There is no question she has the business and strategic skills necessary to lead NOD forward as we work to dramatically expand employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
Sirull has spent the past seven years as president and CEO of the Jewish Community Foundation San Diego. Earlier in her career, she was president and CEO of nonprofit Pacific Community Ventures, where she spent 10 years.
She has a bachelor’s degree in politics and women’s studies from Brandeis University, a master’s degree in marketing from Boston University and a master’s degree in public policy from the University of California, Berkeley.

Riordan to lead health research group
The Health Research Alliance announced Christine Riordan will be the next executive director of the organization, effective June 17. She will succeed Maryrose Franko, who is retiring after leading HRA since 2015.
“Dr. Riordan’s demonstrated commitment to increasing diversity, equity and inclusion in biomedical grantmaking and her ability to connect with volunteers and members to solve challenges made her an ideal candidate for the role,” said HRA Search Committee Chair Marion Greenup.
Riordan is currently director of research for the American Urological Association, where she has worked since 2022. Previously she was senior director of research and evaluation for consultancy Ripple Effect and spent six years working for the U.S. Army Public Health Center.

Schutt ousted at engineer group
The $82M-revenue SAE International announced CEO David Schutt has been dismissed following a unanimous vote by the board. The decision is the result of a formal investigation that “revealed behaviors and actions inconsistent with the organization’s code of conduct, culture and values,” according to a press release from the group.
“While we respect Dr. Schutt’s long tenure with our organization, we must state unequivocally that behaviors incompatible with our policies and culture will not be tolerated under any circumstances or at any level,” said SAE International President and Chair of the Board Carla Bailo. “We are committed to ensuring business continuity while we search for a new chief executive who will be a champion for our organizations and values.”
Schutt was named CEO of SAE in 2007. Previously, he held roles including chief strategy officer, chief financial officer and director of external affairs for the American Chemical Society.
SAE International President Carla Bailo and Greg Bradley, the group’s chief legal officer, will serve as co-CEOs until Schutt’s successor has been named.

Hoffman takes the helm at waste group
The $6.9M-revenue National Waste and Recycling Association announced the appointment of Michael E. Hoffman as president and CEO, effective June 10. He will succeed Darrell Smith, who left the organization in August 2023 after leading for six years.
“Hoffman’s background provides a well-rounded skillset ideally suited to lead our association. Coupled with his extensive working knowledge of the industry and his intimate understanding of the challenges facing NWRA members, our board agreed that Michael is the best choice to lead NWRA into the future,” said Board of Trustees Chairman Don Ross.
